Chelsea v
Manchester United: Odds and Preview
It's
that time in the English Premier League again - the first clash
between the titans of the EPL, Chelsea vs. Manchester United,
compare the betting odds on the Sunday's football game below.
This will be the first match in the 12/13 Barclays Premier
League between Chelsea and Man Utd. , but it certainly is one of
the most important games. Usually this early into the season the
derby between the Blues and the Red Devils is all about pride
and bragging rights, but the way both football clubs have been
playing so far in the EPL, it wouldn't be far stretched to say
that this weekend's game is as important as they come.
At this point in the League, Chelsea are
sitting atop the table with 22 points and have shown some really
good football, unlike the past few seasons. Torres is finally
scoring goals and while many fans are missing Drogba, his
absence from the Blues has clearly been overcome. On the other
side we have Manchester United, who will travel to London
missing a few players, but Rooney and Van Persie have been
working wonderfully together, keeping United on the second spot
of the Premier League table with 18 points, edging City on goal
difference. We will look into the squad options a bit later,
let's get to the meat of this, the Chelsea v. Manchester United
odds. Doing things a bit differently, we will post an odds
comparison among the top UK and European bookmakers and let
people pick their best bets. Here are the Chelsea - Man
United betting odds:
As you can see, the general consensus among
the UK online bookmakers is that Chelsea has this match in the
bag. Paddy is giving slightly better odds for those
anticipating a United win this weekend, while the rest of the
bookies are in agreement with the favourite odds on Chelsea.
Needless to say, the game is clearly a
must win for both teams. Chelsea will have to opportunity to
extend their lead with a home win and have that ace in the
sleeve for the next meeting between the two football clubs in
Manchester, while a victory for United would shorten the
difference between the two to just one point. And let's not
forget Manchester City, who are neck-to-neck with United and are
also eyeing to dethrone Chelsea from that top spot. City will be
playing at home against Swansea and the three points are almost
guaranteed there.
But despite the odds comparison on the
Chelsea v Manchester United game you can see in the table above,
Chelsea will have a really hard time with some major players
missing from the squad this Sunday. Blues' captain John Terry is
still out after being handed a four-match ban and to make
matters worse for Chelsea - midfielder pillar Frank Lampard
suffered a calf injury in the game against Shakhtar Donetsk and
is out of the squad for the game against United this weekend.
But Manchester United will travel to meet Chelsea with plenty of
problems on their own. New midfielder Kagawa is out for two
weeks following an injury in the Champions League game this
week, leaving the already struggling United midfield up for
grabs between Carrick, Scholes and maybe Anderson would have
some game time on Sunday. The United defense has been really
shoddy this season, no surprise considering the number of
injuries suffered, including the long absence of captain Vidic,
Smalling (who could play against Chelsea) and Phil Jones.
Clearly United will focus on Rooney-van Persie to bear most of
the load this week.
