New England
Patriots v. Carolina Panthers: Line and point spread
Once
again it's time for Monday night football and today we will
preview the New England Patriots at Carolina Panthers line and
point spread on the NFL Week 11 closer. Right now the New
England Patriots (7-2) are atop of the AFC East but will travel
tonight to face a tough opponent, the Carolina Panthers (6-3),
who still have a good chance for a playoff berth this season,
currently occupying the second spot on the NFC South
division, just behind the Saints. Considering this is a home
game for the Panthers, Carolina will view this game as a
must-win and a victory will be a big boost for the Panthers. The
Patriots, on the other side, are well ahead of the Jets (5-5)
and can literally afford to lose the game tonight, although we
all know they will go all out against Carolina.
This, as well as some of the stats you can
find further down, explain the line and spread on the
Patriots Panthers game posted by the odds makers. Starting with
the popular online sportsbook
Bookmaker, we find the Panthers
a surprisingly big favorite with money line -150 to win the
game, while the Patriots hold underdog odds, +130 line to win
the Monday night football game. At Bookmaker the New England
Patriots vs. Carolina Panthers point spread is at -3 points
chalk the Panthers, while at the rival odds maker
Bovada Sports we find the
spread and line quite different. At Bovada the Patriots Panthers
point spread is actually just -1 point in favor of the Panthers,
although the payout line on the spread is -115 if the Panthers
manage to cover, which shows that this spread may move a bit
further north in favor of Carolina. What the sportsbooks agree
on is the total for the New England - Carolina game, which is
set at 47 points.
Looking at the betting stats, we find that
Carolina is 5-1 straight up at home, but New England has beaten
the line 6-2 in its last 8 games on the road. Keep in mind that
the Patriots are 1-4 against the spread in their last 5 games
when playing the Panthers. Also worth noting is that the total
has gone OVER in 11 of New England's last 16 games on the road.
As far as the NFL stats are concerned, the New England Patriots
outscore the Carolina Panthers 26.0 to 23.8 points on average,
but the Panthers are much better defensively this season,
allowing only 12.8 per game vs. the Patriots' 19.4 average per
game. Injuries is where Carolina is also in a better position
with only linebacker Chase Blackburn and tight end Ben Hartsock
being out for the Monday night football game against New
England, The Patriots, on the other side, will play without
corner Alfonzo Dennard and safety Steve Gregory, but
questionable still remain corners Kyle Arrington and Aqib Talib,
as well as running back Leon Washington. Patriots wide receiver
Danny Amendola and more importantly quarterback Tom Brady have
been upgraded to probable for the Week 11 NFL game against the
Panthers tonight.
