College Football Week 4: Point spread, odds and totals

The Week 4 of college football has started with the games on Thursday and Friday, we will take a look at the betting odds, trends and point spreads on some of the Saturday college football games.

We will start with the game between Penn State (3-0) and Michigan (2-1), the game begins on Saturday at 3:30pm at Michigan Stadium. Very important game for both the Michigan Wolverines, who had an awful start this season and the Penn State Nittany Lions, who are already 3-0 and tend to keep the good record. The betting website Bookmaker (new window) has listed Penn State as favorite to win the match-up on Saturday with odds -145 and Michigan is underdog with odds +125. The spread on the Penn State vs. Michigan is currently favoring the Nittany Lions -2.5 points and the total for this college football game is sitting at 46 points.

 Earlier on Saturday, the Clemson Tigers (3-0) will visit the North Carolina State Wolfpack (1-2). Considering the current records of these two college football teams, it comes as no surprise that Clemson are listed as the favorite with odds -300 and NC State have +250 betting odds. Clemson are -7.5 points chalk on the spread and the total of the Clemson - NC State game is currently set at 52.5 points.

 At 12:00pm will be the battle of the 2-1's between Georgia Tech (2-1) and Virginia (2-1). The Yellow Jackets are favorite at Bookmaker to win the game with betting odds -175, compared to the Cavaliers at +155. The point spread also favors Georgia Tech -4 points and the total for the Georgia Tech vs. Virginia is posted at 40.5 points. It interesting to know that Georgia Tech is 1-5 against the spread in its last 6 games when playing on the road against Virginia and 0-5 SU in its last 5 games when playing on the road against Virginia. The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Virginia's last 5 games when playing the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

 Wake Forest is finally catching a break by the odds makers. The Wake Forest Demon Deacons (1-2) are welcoming the Maryland Terrapins (2-1) on Saturday and the Deacons are favorite to win with odds -165 and the Terrapins are listed at +145. The spread on the Maryland vs. Wake Forest college football game is -3.5 points chalk Wake Forest and the latest total published is sitting at 42 points. Past betting and scores show that Maryland is 4-1 against the spread in its last 5 games when playing on the road against Wake Forest and the total has gone UNDER in 5 of Wake Forest's last 5 games at home.

 And a final closer look goes to the game between the Washington State Cougars (2-1) and the USC Trojans (2-0). Of course, the No. 1 USC are favorite to win the football game on Saturday with odds -450, compared to +225 on the visiting Washington State. The spread on this game, however, currently favors USC -25 points with total set at 63.5 points. Plenty of room for a surprise and a big payout here.

East Carolina at West Virginia: the spread favors West Virginia -24.5 points, total at 58.5 points;
Syracuse at Louisville: the Cardinals are -36.5 chalk against the spread, total is listed at 62;
North Carolina at South Florida: the Bulls are -13 ATS with total of 50 points;
Ball State at Nebraska: the Cornhuskers are favorite 23 points against the spread, 62 points as total for this college football game on Saturday;
Florida at Mississippi: the Gators are -23 chalk on the spread, total sitting at 58.5 points;
Northwestern at Ohio State: the Buckeyes are -23.5 against the spread, total at 47 points.
