2007 Breeders Cup
Sprint: Odds to win and contenders
In this section we will review
the top contenders to win the 2007 Breeder's Cup Sprint race and
their odds.
The 2007 Breeder's Cup Sprint race will take place at Monmouth
Park on Saturday at 2:35pm EST and here are the top contenders
and their odds as posted at the online betting website
Bodog Racing. Midnight Lute
is shaping up as the clear favorite to win the Sprint with odds
2/1. He is trained by Bob Baffert and Midnight Lute (Breeder's
Cup points: 14) holds the record 4-1-1-0 with $228,000 in
earnings. Bob Baffert calls him one of the 10 most talented
horses he’s ever trained and he is the son of Real Quiet - the
1998 Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner.
Smokey Stover (BC points: 12) comes
second with odds 7/2. He has a 2007 record 6-5-0-1 and over
$470,000 in earnings this year. Trainer of Smokey Stover is Greg
Gilchrist. A wet track, however, has shown to slow down Smokey
Stover. Greg's Gold comes third by odds listed at 9/2,
but don't let this fool you. Trained by David Hofmans, Greg's
Gold holds 7-3-3-0 record this year and almost half million in
earnings and qualified for the 2007 Breeder's Cup Sprint by
winning the Pat O'Brien Handicap in August at Del Mar. Greg's
Gold has finished in the top two in 16 out of his last 20 career
starts.
