Vikings' Troy
Williamson fined for attending funeral
Troy Williamson, wide receiver
for the Minnesota Vikings, is taking a pay cut for attending his
grandmother's funeral.
The
Minnesota Vikings may have a serious financial problem.
According to local reports, the Vikings have fined wide receiver
Troy Williamson $25,588.24, or one-game pay, for missing the
Sunday game and three practices - because he was attending his
grandmother's funeral! Troy Williamson left the team to go to
South Carolina and help with the arrangements of the funeral of
his grandmother, a woman who helped raise the player and keep
him out of the streets, but obviously the Vikings have zero
tolerance in such cases. Coach Brad Childress has justified the
decision based on business principals and mentioned previous
similar cases, that of Vikings DT Pat Williams and Colts WR
Reggie Wayne, who both appeared in games shortly after the
deaths of family members.
Troy Williamson was drafted in 2005 from
South Carolina as seventh overall pick in the first round by the
Minnesota Vikings.
