John Harbaugh
hired as the Baltimore Ravens head coach
The Baltimore Ravens hired
John Harbaugh as their new head coach on Friday.
On
Friday it was official - the Baltimore Ravens hired John
Harbaugh as their new head coach. Harbaugh, 45, will be a head
coach for the first time in his football career, coming out of
Philadelphia secondary coach position and working with the
special teams in the past. He is scheduled to be introduced as
the new head coach of the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday and will
succeed Brian Billick, who was fired at the end of 2007,
following the Ravens 5-11 season. John Harbaugh was signed on a
4-year contract and although the salary numbers were not made
public, media speculations place the yearly pay of the new head
coach around $2 million.
John Harbaugh is actually the second choice
of Baltimore. Initially the Ravens offered the job to Dallas
Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett, but on Thursday
Garrett turned down the Ravens, after Cowboys owner Jerry Jones
raised his salary and promised Garrett a promotion to assistant
head coach. New York Jets offensive coordinator Brian
Schottenheimer also interviewed for the Ravens job, but at the
end, it was offered to John Harbaugh.
