Falcons.
The
Atlanta Falcons hired the Jacksonville Jaguars defensive
coordinator Mike Smith as the new team's head coach on Wednesday
night. The Falcons have not officially disclosed the details of
the deal reached late Wednesday, but according to the Atlanta
Journal Constitution, it will be a four-year contract worth
between $8 and $10 million. Mike Smith was selected among many
other candidates, after former head coach Bobby Petrino left the
Falcons high and dry with three games left in the regular
season. According to the Atlanta Falcons general manager Thomas
Dimitroff, Mike Smith possesses all the abilities the football
team is looking for and will be the perfect fit to lead the
franchise into a better future.
Although Mike Smith has not been a head
coach during his carrier, he has spent nine years in the league,
the last five seasons as the Jacksonville Jaguars defensive
coordinator, and the three season prior to Jacksonville Smith
was the Baltimore Ravens' defensive line coach.
