Scott Spiezio cut by the St. Louis Cardinals after police warrant issued

The St. Louis Cardinals released utilityman Scott Spiezio after cops issue DUI-related warrant.

Scott Spiezio cut by the St. Louis Cardinals after police warrant issued The St. Louis Cardinals released utilityman Scott Spiezio ( famous for his red goatee) on Wednesday, following the news that a six-count warrant for his arrest has been issued by the police. The warrant stems from a December 30th car crash and alleges driving under influence, driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content of t08 percent or more, hit and run, aggravated assault, assault and battery. According to the police, the maximum penalty Scott Spiezio is facing is two years in state prison.

"We hope Scott will continue to seek appropriate help and wish him the best in baseball, but more importantly in life," Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said in a statement. Scott Spiezio won World Series championships with Anaheim in 2002 and St. Louis in 2006. He was entering the final season of a two-year, $4.5 million contract and the official reason for his release was for failure "to exhibit sufficient skill or competitive ability." Last year Scott Spiezio took part in only 82 games due to injuries, illness and treatment, managing only four homers, 31 RBIs and a .269 average. Spiezio missed more than a month last year while getting treatment for substance abuse.
