American Idol:
David Hernandez here to stay, girls sing tonight
The
much publicized gay stripper past of American Idol contestant
David Hernandez will not be an issue, the show's producer said.
"The truth is, we're never judgmental about what people do to
earn a living. They've got to put food in people's mouths. We've
had strippers on the show before. Nikki McKibbon was one in
Season One. If it were some sort of heavy porn, then maybe we'd
have to take action. But certainly not on this. There are a lot
of people I know who'd love to have the opportunity just to make
a better living by taking their clothes off. David Hernandez,
whatever you say, is a nice guy. And he can sing. He's got a
great voice. He deserves to be there, as far as I'm concerned,"
American Idol executive producer Ken Warwick was quoted
commenting on the scandal. According to Warwick, the producers
had no idea that David Hernandez was working at a male strip
club, but even if they did, it wouldn't have mattered.
David Hernandez sang last night as part
of the male performance episode of the American Idol and all
three judges were not affected by the already brewing scandal.
All three gave him the "thumbs up" for his interpretation of
"It's All Coming Back to Me Now", with Simon Cowell going as far
as telling Hernandez he could get to the finals if he keeps
singing like that. And in doing so, David Hernandez could easily
turn into one of the best bets on this season of American Idol.
At the online bookmaker
BodogLife Hernandez is still listed with
the whopping odds of 28/1 to win the show, which means that
bettors would be paid $28 for every $1 risked. David Archuleta
remains the top favorite to win at the bookie with odds 8/11.
Tonight is the girls turn to sing and
the females of American Idol are hardly shy of controversy. So
far there have been rumors of racy photos Amanda Overmyer, as
well as a questionable Facebook picture of Ramiele Malubay, but
still nothing serious. Ramiele Malubay holds odd to win American
Idol at 13/1 and Amanda Overmyer is now one of the biggest
underdogs, listed with odds to win the show at 80/1.
