Manchester City
to sack Sven-Goran Eriksson
Manchester City manager Sven-Goran Eriksson will be
sacked at the end of the season, latest reports in the British
press indicate. According to the sources, the football club
owner Thaksin Shinawatra told Eriksson, who has two years left
on his contract, that he was not the right man for the job.
Sven-Goran Eriksson says he will not resign from the managerial
post and informed players on Monday that he will be dismissed at
the end of the season, sparking an angry response. It appears
that the last straw for Shinawatra was Sunday's 3-2 loss against
Fulham, after Manchester City blew away a 2-0 lead. According to
media reports, after the Sunday's game, Thaksin Shinawatra held
a meeting with Eriksson and told him he would be dismissed after
their final two games of the season.
Sven-Goran Eriksson took over Manchester
City a few weeks before the start of the season and led the
squad to the 3rd spot on the Premiership table in November. But
ever since, the team has been going down the hill, winning just
four of their last 15 games and are currently sitting on the 9th
row. Shinawatra will now set about the task of landing a new
manager, with former Portugal coach Luiz Felipe Scolari already
touted as a replacement for Eriksson. Naturally, as soon as
Eriksson's dismissal is official, the bookmakers will post odds
on the possible replacement and the punters could then join in
on the action, as well.
