2008 Players
Championship: Tiger Woods absence good for punters
The
absence of Tiger Woods from the 2008 Players Championship is
upsetting to the fans of the game, but great news for the
punters. Woods had to skip the Players Championship because he
is recovering from his third round of surgery on his left knee
and is unlikely to return to golf until the end of this month at
the earliest. But his absence from the Sawgrass could be the
much welcomed break odds makers and punter alike have been
waiting for - now we have action. Usually when Tiger Woods
competes, there is little left for the rest of the golfers -
Woods is oftentimes listed with even odds and, of course, wins
most of the events. But now we have a new favorite - last year's
winner Phil
Mickelson is the new leader at the online sportsbook
BodogSports and his odds are,
check this, 11/1! Eleven to one are the shortest odds on the
2008 Players Championship tourney, something we haven't seen in
ages. This means that if you get the winner of the 2008 Players
Championship you will at least get your money ten-fold.
Adam Scott comes second in odds to win
this PGA Tournament with odds 12/1, Jim Furyk, as well as Vijay
Singh, are at 18/1, Padraig Harrington is at 22/1 odds, along
with Stewart Cink and the rest of the golfers pay out on 33+
odds. A long list of underdogs, all holding odds of 150/1. The
double digit odds on a major PGA Tournament are offered only
because Woods is missing, so take advantage while they last. As
soon as the World's No.1 is back, we'll also be back to
reporting even odds.
