Charles Barkley
hitting the poker tables, gambling for charity
Not
to long ago former NBA star Charles Barkley was sought after by
the casinos to settle a gambling debt, resulting in a pledge to
avoid gambling for a few years. But Barkley will be hitting the
poker tables on July 2nd to play in a celebrity poker tournament
at the 2008 World Series of Poker. The event which led to a
broken promise is called "Ante Up for Africa" and aims to raise
money and awareness for the crisis in the Darfur region of
Sudan. The buy-in is $5,000 and all players participating in the
poker tourney are asked to donate a minimum of 50% of their
future winning. Last year the final two players agreed to donate
all of their poker winnings to the charity, about $350,000,
which raised the total collected for charity to half a million.
A reminder to the millions who didn't have the chance to play at
the 2008 World Series of Poker - the online sportsbook
BodogSport is offering various
betting odds on the outcome.
