Don Imus opens old
wounds with Pacman Jones comments
Controversial
radio personality Don Imus is back on the job and we didn't wait
long for the next racial scandal - Imus comments on troubled NFL
player Adam "Pacman" Jones. It all began on Monday, when during
an on-air conversation about suspended Dallas Cowboys cornerback
Adam Jones, his latest arrest, and the fact that Adam Jones
doesn't want people to call him "Pacman", Imus asked "What
color is he [Jones]?" Sports announcer Warner Wolf told Imus
that Adam Jones was African-American, to which Imus made the
controversial comment: "There you go. Now we know."
Imus and his latest controversial
comments regarding Adam "Pacman" Jones were quickly picked up by
the media, forcing Don Imus to attempt and clarify the meaning
of "There you go. Now we know." Imus released the following
statement: "I meant that he was being picked on because he's
black." A response from Rev. Al Sharpton read: "I find
the inference of his remark disturbing because it plays into
stereotypes. We will determine in the next day or so whether or
not his remark warrants direct action on our part."
WABC and Citadel Broadcasting Corp. Vice
President Phil Boyce said Imus would explain his comments on his
Tuesday morning show and said it was unlikely the broadcasters
would take disciplinary action. When last year the "nappy-headed
hoes" scandal began, the odds makers at
BodogSports were quick
to offer odds on if Imus would be able to keep his job, with
"no" being a favorite outcome by a landslide. If the latest Imus
comments manage to stir the pot, the bookie has assured odds on
Imus would be quick to follow.
