Detroit's
Greektown Casino laying off 89, more coming
The
Greektown Casino in Detroit, MI, has let 89 employees go as part
of the $7.8 million in reorganization cuts. The casino, which
filed for bankruptcy protection on May 29th, after failing to
meet the terms of a credit line and contractors threatened to
abandon the hotel and casino expansion already underway,
announced the lay-off of 89 employees from the casino, most of
them working at the gambling tables. According to Greektown
Casino spokesman Roger Martin, more layoffs are to come,
although an exact number was not revealed, despite earlier
assurance that layoffs were not being considered. The number of
employees at the Greektwon Casino is about 1,900. Casino
officials said the casino is expected to add 400 employees to
staff its 400-room hotel, scheduled to open early next year.
