Euro 2008: Michael
Ballack doubtful for final with injury
Germany
captain Michael Ballack will likely miss the Euro 2008 Final on
Sunday, suffering from a calf injury. Ballack missed practice on
Friday and Saturday and the German Football Federation said the
midfielder is undergoing treatment for his injury. Michael
Ballack, who was sidelined during the 2002 World Cup final
because of suspension, suffered the calf injury in training on
Friday and his replacement will be a game-day decision. "On
Friday he had problems with his right calf, the muscle has
hardened and he couldn't possibly participate in the training,
so we will have to wait and see how things develop. Our medical
people are working round the clock, but we have to think
seriously about what's going to happen if Michael Ballack cannot
play. There are two possibilities, Tim Borowski or Bastian
Schweinsteiger, both of them can take his position, but we will
decide that on Sunday," Germany coach Joachim Low said on
Saturday. At the British online sportsbook
Sportingbet Germany holds long odds 2/1 on winning
the Euro 2008 Final, while Spain is 5/4 favourite for gold.
