Ruslana Korshunova:
Model plunges to death, suspected suicide
Vogue cover model Ruslana Korshunova, 20, is thought to
have jumped to her death from her Manhattan apartment, it was
reported today. Speculations emerge that the Kazakh model
committed suicide, although police said only that the woman was
discovered dead in front of an apartment building in downtown
Manhattan. But witnesses say they saw Ruslana Korshunova plunge
to her death from the ninth-floor balcony in the building on
Saturday afternoon. According to local media reports, the police
found no signs of struggle in Korshunova's apartment and she is
believed to have committed a suicide.
The window from which she fell had a
balcony, which had construction netting around it that appeared
to have been cut. The model was barefoot and dressed in blue
jeans and a purple tank top when she fell to her death. A friend
of the model said that Korshunova had just returned from a
modeling gig in Paris and seemed to be "on top of the world".
Ruslana Korshunova, a native of Alma-Ata, Kazakhstan, had been
profiled in British Vogue in recent years as a new face to
watch, and she was featured in ads by Vera Wang, Marc Jacobs,
Christian Dior and DKNY. Korshunova has also appeared on the
cover of the European edition of Elle.
