Rafael Nadal wins
the 2008 Wimbledon, pays big
Rafael Nadal was crowned the winner of the 2008 Wimbledon
Tennis Championship, after a gallant and hard-earned victory
over Roger Federer on Sunday. Nadal defeated Federer in a 6-4,
6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-7 (8), 9-7, four-hour and 48-minute match,
denying the Swiss a sixth victory at the all-English. "I
tried everything. It just got a little late and everything. But
Rafa's a deserving champion. It's just my bad luck to play the
worst opponent on the best court. But it's been a joy to play
here as always and I'll be back next year," Roger Federer
promised. Nadal's victory was a shocker not only for Federer's
fans, but odds makers, as well, with the Spaniard offering a big
payout to the lucky punters. Rafael Nadal was the underdog of
the Wimbledon final at the British online sportsbook
Sportingbet, listed with odds to win 23/20, while
Federer was the favorite to win his sixth Wimbledon title
sitting on short odds 4/6.
