2008 Wimbledon
Final: Federer big favourite against Nadal
Hours
away from that start of the 2008 Wimbledon Final match Roger
Federer v Rafael Nadal and the latest odds are favouring the
Swiss in a big way. Although the final has a good chance of
being delayed due to rain, the punters are supporting Federer to
the point his odds had to be shortened. For example, at the
British online sportsbook
Sportingbet the odds on Federer to win the 2008
Wimbledon are now posted at 4/6, while the Spaniard is underdog
with odds on winning the Wimbledon Final at 23/20. Federer may
have beaten Nadal in the last two finals, but the Spaniard has
improved rapidly on grass and last month at the French Rafael
Nadal was the better player. Still, the odds makers are siding
with Federer, who will be chasing six consecutive Wimbledon
title on Sunday, weather permitting.
"I think it's a totally different
court [compared to the French Open], different surface.
Everything is different. I think it doesn't matter. I prefer to
have the victory, but I don't think it will be important for
Sunday," Nadal was quoted. "Paris was sort of a
disappointment, in terms of living up to the expectations, but
that happens sometimes. For me it's obviously important to sort
of bounce back from that loss, even though I'm not going to draw
anything out of that match because Rafa plays so different on
clay and grass. He plays so much closer to the baseline that I
have to draw from my two previous Wimbledon finals," Federer
set the stage on Saturday. Nadal has an 11-6 record against
Federer in head-to-head meetings but the matches have gone very
much along the expected lines, with Nadal winning nine of their
10 meetings on clay and Federer winning both matches on grass.
Roger Federer winning the 2008 Wimbledon
Final 3-1 is the favourite outcome with the odds makers on
Sunday with payout of 3/1, followed by Federer winning 3-0 with
odds 7/2. The odds on Rafael Nadal winning Wimbledon 3-1 or 3-2
are posted at 5/1 on
Sportingbet's website. Live
betting on the 2008 Wimbledon final will also be available at
the bookie.
