French Open:
Hewitt and Sharapova advance to round 3
The 2007 French-Open will continue in the 3rd
round with Lleyton Hewitt and Maria Sharapova.
The
Australian Lleyton Hewitt won the right to move forward in the
tennis tournament with a victory over the 2004 Champion Gaston Gaudio. In a long match today Hewitt had to chase the victory
of 4-6, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4, 6-2 in a three and a half hours of world
class tennis, exhibited by both players. Hewitt's next match is
against Jarkko Nieminen, who beat Frenchman Mathieu Montcourt.
Hewitt has the odds to win the French Open of
51.00, according to the British online bookmaker
Bet 365. The Finnish Jarkko
Nieminen has the odds of 151.00.
At the French Open Women, Maria Sharapova also
moves to round three, after winning over Jill Craybas of the USA
6-2, 6-1. Sharapova's betting odds to win the 2007 French Open
are 12.00. Maria Sharapova received the results of an MRI
last month, which indicated perhaps a season-ending injury. She,
however, decided that there is no missing the French Open. It is
possible that the shoulder injury worsens and she gets
sidelined, despite her desire to play.
Also securing a match in round three are
Katarina Srebotnik and Patty Schnyder (odds 41.00).
