Shannon Briggs was initially scheduled to defend his title on March 10th against Ibragimov, but Briggs pulled out of the fight because he was diagnosed with "aspirational pneumonia" and the fight was be rescheduled for June 2nd.

Shannon Briggs has a total of 53 fights on his boxing record, with 48 wins (42 of which by KO), 4 losses and one draw.

Sultan Ibragimov is ranked number 3 in the WBO Heavyweight rankings. The Russian boxer fought against Javier Mora at Madison Square Gardens in New York Match 10th, after the WBO fight cancellation. Ibragimov knocked out Mora 46 seconds into the first round and broke the record for the quickest knockout in a main event in Madison Square Garden, which was previously held by Lee Savold in 1948. Sultan Ibragimov's boxing card is now 20-0-1.
