UK Horse Racing -
Eagle Mountain favorite for the Irish Derby
Eagle Mountain and Boscobel
strong favourites for the 2007 Irish Derby at the Curragh
Racecourse on Sunday.
The
2007 Budweiser Irish Derby starts on July 1st at 3:50 and with a
purse of £1,500,000 it will attract some of the best colts and
bettors. Our recommended British online bookmaker
Bet365 as usual offers the best
odds on the Irish Derby. According to the bookie, "Eagle
Mountain" is the favorite to win the Derby on Sunday with
betting odds of 1/1, followed by "Boscobel" with odds on winning
11/2.
Eagle Mountain, trained by O'Brien,
raced last earlier this month, June 2nd, at the Epsom Downs for
the Vodafone Derby Stakes and finished 2nd to Authorized. The
colt held up well in rear, 18th straight, headway from 2f out,
stayed on to take 2nd inside final furlong, drew clear of rest,
but had no chance with the impressive winner. Eagle Mountain has
finished first at only one race in its last 6 starts, but that
was also at the Curragh Racecourse, October of last year, and
the colt is quite familiar with this turf.
Boscobel, trained by M. Johnston, could
prove the best bet for the Irish Derby with the 11/2 odds. The
chestnut colt has an impressive 5 out of last 6 record and is
going strong for the 2007 Irish Derby. Boscobel won its last
race at the Royal Ascot on June 22nd for the King Edward VII
Stakes. Boscobel led and set steady pace, ridden and quickened 3
lengths clear over 2f out in that race. Although it has been
just a week since Boscobel raced, the colt has all the potential
of winning the Irish Derby.
