British Open: Sergio Garcia lone leader after Day Three

Tiger Woods trailing 8 behind the leader of the 2007 British Open Sergio Garcia after Day Three of the Open Championship.

British Open: Sergio Garcia lone leader after Day Three Sergio Garcia is by far the most famous golfer in the world today, after finishing Day 3 of the British Open 9-under par, three above the second Steve Stricker and 8 ahead of Tiger Woods. The Spanish golfer got three birdies on Saturday - on the 1st, 8th and 11th holes, managing par on the rest of the course and increased his lead to a total of 9-under 204. Sergio Garcia is well on his way to win the 2007 British Open, pressed only by Steve Stricker.

Stricker did an amazing job today at the Carnoustie, beginning his day with three straight birdies, topping them off with four extras, to finish Round 3 with the course record of 7-under 64, for a total of 6-under 207.

Almost perfect day for Ernie Els, as well. Els tied for 3rd, and could have even tied the second with Stricker, if he didn't shot a triple bogey on the 6th hole.

Tiger Woods did not manage to pull ahead in the third day of the British Open, and finished the round tied for the 15th with a total Open score of 1-under 212. "It's horrible. It's a major and the conditions have been a little bit frustrating. If you're off you're going to be penalized," Tiger Woods commented afterward.

Here are the top ten on the 2007 British Open leaderboard, after Round 3:

1 Sergio GARCIA 18 -9
2 Steve STRICKER 18 -6
T3 Chris DiMARCO 18 -3
T3 Paul McGINLEY 18 -3
T3 Stewart CINK 18 -3
T3 Padraig HARRINGTON 18 -3
