Mike Coolbaugh killed by line drive foul
Former St. Louis
Cardinal and current Tulsa Drillers coach Mike Coolbaugh died
Sunday night.
Tulsa Drillers coach Mike Coolbaugh died on Sunday night North
Little Rock, Arkansas after being hit in the head by a line
drive while coaching at first base. The incident happened in the
ninth inning during the game between Tulsa Drillers and
Arkansas.
According to reports 35-year-old Coolbaugh was struck in
the head by a line drive off the bat of Tulsa's Tino Sanchez,
and immediately fell to the ground. CPR was administered on the
field, unfortunately about one hour later Mike Coolbaugh passed
away as the ambulance arrived at the hospital. Mike Coolbaugh
was pronounced dead at 9:47 pm on Sunday.
Coolbaugh joined the Tulsa Drillers earlier
this month as a batting coach. Mike Coolbaugh played 44 games in
the major leagues for the St. Louis Cardinals and Milwaukee
Brewers over two seasons, and has played for the Tulsa Drillers
for a short period in 1996. He hit two home runs in 70 major
league at-bats.
