Whoopi Goldberg
will join "The View"
The replacement of Rosie
O'Donnell on "The View" has been chosen, Whoopi Goldberg will be
the new co-host on the show.
After
weeks of rumors, Barbara Walters announced that Whoopi Goldberg
will be the Rosie O'Donnell replacement on "The View". As we
reported last week, the decision for the new co-host of the
popular show was swinging between Whoopi Goldberg and Sherri
Shepherd.
In a statement, Barbara Walters told the
viewers: "I have known Whoopi for years. She is brilliant, funny
and irrepressible, and is an enormously popular and talented
star. We are delighted that she is going to join the program as
our moderator. This is going to be a great new chapter for 'The
View.'"
Whoopi Goldberg admitted she was thrilled
to be part of the show and is looking forward to the debates.
"I'm going to be a little meaner than normal," she said
jokingly.
Barbara Walters has been searching for a
replacement of O'Donnell ever since she left "The View" in May,
after a heated debate over Bush's policy, which escalated to
almost a fist-fight with co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck. The
online betting website
Bodog Sports offered odds on
the O'Donnell's replacement, but Whoopi Goldberg was not listed
on the props. This means that the website would pay out 5/1 for
"the field" to anyone cleverly placing that bet.
