It was a simple question for Lauren Caitlin Upton during
the Miss Teen USA contest, but the confused answer Miss Teen
South Carolina gave made her an unwilling celebrity on the Web.

The response to the question was so
confusing, it is hard to believe at that time Miss Upton could
have pointed to the United States on the map herself. Miss Teen
Colorado Hilary Carol Cruz won the crown and Lauren Upton was
third runner-up in the contest.
The 18-year-old Miss Teen South Carolina had a
chance to redeem herself on the Today's show. "I would love to
re-answer that question. Well personally, my friends and I, we
know exactly where the United States is on our map. I don't know
anyone else who doesn't. And if the statistics are correct, I
believe there should be more emphasis on geography," Lauren
Caitlin Upton said on the NBC show on Tuesday.
"Everything did come at me at once. I was
overwhelmed and I made a mistake. Everybody makes a mistake. I'm
human. I seriously think I only heard about one or two words of
the actual question," Miss Teen South Carolina justified the
blabber during the contest.
Lauren Upton plans to attend the Appalachian
State University in Boone, North Carolina; keep that in mind
