NFL Spreads: Patriots vs. Jets, Steelers vs. Bears point spread, odds

Now that the NFL season is in full swing and we are gearing for Week 2 football, we will begin our NFL odds and spreads preview with two of the most popular games coming up - the New England Patriots vs. NY Jets and the Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Chicago Bears. Currently these two Week 2 NFL games are the most bet on football games this week at the popular online sportsbook Bookmaker, which we also use for the latest NFL spreads and odds, thus we begin with the Patriots (1-0) visiting the NY Jets (1-0) and the Bears (0-1) welcoming the defending champs Steelers (1-0) on Sunday. Much of the interest in these games comes from the football opener performance of all teams. Last week the Patriots had a hard time at home against the Bills, barely escaping by a point, while the Jets had no problem taking it to the Texans in Houston. Meanwhile the Bears showed some real game against the Packers, although their defense appears to weaken significantly in the second half. All and all, the Steelers were the only team that did what was expected in Week 1.

Beginning the NFL Week2 spreads and odds preview with the New England Patriots vs. NY Jets, the betting numbers are pretty much in line with the general expectations. At the sports betting website Bookmaker (new window), the Patriots are odds-on favorite, sitting on -190 odds to win the Week 2 NFL game on Sunday. Meanwhile the Jets will come out as small +160 underdog. The Patriots vs. Jets point spread is currently at -3 points chalk the Pats, probably one of the smallest point spread New England has been granted in a while, and the total expected by the odds makers is posted as 46.5 points. When betting the Week 2 NFL spreads, keep in mind that New England is 4-1 against the spread in its last 5 games on the road and the NY Jets are 0-5 against the spread in their last 5 games when playing at home against the Patriots. The total, however, has gone OVER in 4 of the NY Jets last 5 games at home. At New England wide receivers Julian Edelman and Wes Welker are currently questionable for Week 2, although running back Sammy Morris and quarterback Tom Brady, who is nursing throwing shoulder injury, were upgraded to probable. At the Jets, defensive end Shaun Ellis will come out of suspension, while running back Shonn Greene, tight end Dustin Keller and wide receiver Wallace Wright were all posted as probable on the Jets' injury list.

Moving on to the other football game in our Week 2 NFL odds and point spread preview, the Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Chicago Bears. This is the first time The Bears will meet the Steelers in almost four years, but seeing the quality of play both teams exhibited last week, it's bound to be one of the major games this weekend. That the Steelers will have a hard time at Soldier Field on Sunday is best illustrated by the betting odds posted at Bookmaker. Pittsburgh will come out on the filed as favorite, but holding a very small difference in the line at -145 on W, while the Bears would pay out small at +125 on victory this week. The Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Chicago Bears point spread is set at -3 points chalk the Steelers and the total posted by the sportsbook is 37.5 points. Betting trends show that Pittsburgh has covered the spread 5 times in its last 7 games on the road, but the Bears are 1-3-1 against the spread in their last 5 games at home. Also keep in mind that the total has gone OVER in 7 of Chicago's last 10 games at home. But at least injuries would not be the main concern at either team. Steelers linebacker Lawrence Timmons is the only player doubtful for Week 2 and the Bears have listed wide receiver Devin Aromashodu and cornerback Charles Tillman as questionable for the game against Pittsburgh.
