Atlanta Falcons
sign quarterback Byron Leftwich
The former Jacksonville
Jaguars quarterback Byron Leftwich has signed with the Atlanta
Falcons, expected to join practice on Wednesday.
With
Falcons star quarterback Michael Vick gone "for a while",
Atlanta had to look for an alternative and the current situation
with Harrington left the Georgia team with a 0-2 start this
football season. After a long week of rumors, it was confirmed
on Tuesday, that the former Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback
Byron Leftwich has signed with the Atlanta Falcons on a two-year
deal worth $7 million.
Will Byron Leftwich have a positive
impact on the Falcons is yet to be seen. Leftwich was cut by the
Jacksonville Jaguars when the Jags chose David Garrard as their
starter during the preseason. Leftwich, who was seventh pick in
2003, has missed 15 games in the past two seasons, most recently
due to ankle and knee injuries. But with only 10 points in the
first two NFL games this season, the Falcons could use any help
they could get.
On Sunday the Atlanta Falcons will
welcome the Carolina Panthers and the odds makers are hardly
impressed by the signing of Byron Leftwich. Falcons are underdog
on Sunday with odds +185 on winning the home game, as posted by
the online wagering site
Bookmaker and the Panthers are
favorite at -215. The spread on the Falcons - Panthers game is
set at -4 points favorite on Carolina and the total expected
currently is 36.5 points.
