Paul Jewell named
as Derby County new manager
The former Wigan manager Paul
Jewell is the new Derby County coach.
Just two days after Derby sacked manager Billy Davies following
a poor start, the chairman of the Premier League club Adam
Pearson moved to nab unemployed Paul Jewell. Jewell, who had
just declined an offer from Wigan, said that running Derby will
be a real challenge, but when asked if he has hope of success he
was firm: "Absolutely. If I don't believe it, if the players
don't believe it, if the fans don't believe it we have no
chance. It's going to be very difficult but I'm not here to wave
the white flag. We're not adrift. Every challenge is a big
challenge - be it Bradford, Sheffield Wednesday or Wigan."
Derby County are currently sitting at
the bottom of the Premier League table, with only one victory
this season. Although relegation is still very much avoidable,
at the British odds maker
Bet 365 Derby remains the
favorite to be relegated this season with odds 1/16, followed by
Wigan with 8/11 and Birmingham with odds 5/4.
